Reconnecting with your Childlike Nature
You are the most honest and authentic expression of yourself during those early years of childhood. You live in a state of constant discovery, as you experience different angles of the world for the very first time. There are so many clouds to see, flowers to smell, treats to taste, songs to hear, hands to hold, and most of all, an entire realm of spirit to translate into physical reality. You are born knowing exactly who you are.
Your power is inherently known, and your deep understanding of spirit as a child is what allows for the freedom and joy within you to flourish. When you trust the fact that you are guided, supported, and unconditionally loved, it is easy to be yourself. There is no fear that the warmth and comfort from spirit will diminish, for the connection to that love is still strongly rooted within you.
As the years of childhood move through you and lead you into a new point of view, known as adulthood, your understanding of life may change. You may reminisce and imagine when life was simpler, and not realize that it truly can be once again. You will always be a reflection of the child you once were. That version of yourself is always thriving on a timeline that can be connected with at any moment.
It’s impossible to become separated from an aspect of yourself, for you are a whole being. Though maybe not always acting from a place of wholeness, that doesn’t dismiss the fact that you are in constant communication with your past, present, and future selves. There is information being exchanged in all directions of your being due to simultaneous time. You are always guided by a memory, a current awareness, or inclining of what is to come. All woven together into a seamless fusion of thought, emotion, and perception. Making YOU the ultimate navigator of your reality, YOU as a harmonious blend of all expressions of yourself.
With this idea in mind, it now seems less outlandish to be able to revive the bond with your childlike nature. Even if you have been “out of touch” for many years, its easy to reconnect with that version of you that still exists in your child timeline. That timeline is a specific frequency that can be accessed through an emotional or physical connection.
For example, the qualities of wonder, curiosity, and playfulness are encoded with childlike frequencies. If you cultivate these feelings within you, and act in your life from that childlike state of being, you will observe a great shift. Maybe the anxiety in your mind will soften, something unexpected will bring about a giggle, or perhaps a playful banter will arise between you and a friend. There will be reflections appearing all around you, if you pay attention.
Your childlike nature can also be rekindled through more physical means, if cultivating the emotional states of childhood without a catalyst are challenging for you. There are many activities that can assist in this reconnection, but the first step is having the willingness to let go of any self-judgement or the fear of judgment from others. This is all play, this is all a game, which is truly what life is all about in the first place.
The first activity that is a simple but wonderful place to start, is blowing bubbles. Watch the bubbles peacefully float in the wind, and admire their colors as they reflect in the sun. Its even better if you can do this is a public space, and exchange some smiles with each passerby. Invite others into your play.
The next activity you can do, is go on a tactile nature walk. Use all of your senses as a way bringing forth your memories of the first time you experienced the magic of nature. Pick up the unique rocks and twigs, pause and watch the birds that land on the tree branches before you, listen to the wind rustle the leaves, and smell every flower you find. Engage in every possible way that you can, and at the end of your adventure, bring home a treasure as a reminder of your capacity to be a child.
The third activity I recommend, is playing with water in some form. Whether you take a bubble bath, wade in a river, or simple take a shower. Add your imagination into the mix. Imagine that rather than being in the shower, you are standing in the mist of a huge cascading waterfall. Or perhaps instead of being in the bubble bath, you are floating in the frothy foam of huge crashing waves upon the ocean shore. And if you are wading in a river, imagine that you are a stone that lives in the water. Feel the water glide over you, and visualize the perspective of your fellow rocks and stones beneath your toes.
Imagination will always be the key that opens you back up to your childlike nature. Its the key you can never lose. Once you give yourself permission to explore your childlike nature, then you can start building a new relationship. Make it interactive, joyful, lighthearted, and full of questions. Allow your curiosity to unfold, and truly listen to the unique and often silly responses given by your inner child. They have a lot to say, and they may be quite humorous in their delivery. Or perhaps they may be straightforward, and speak as a matter-of-fact.
By initiating this communication, and nourishing your bond with love and attentiveness, you will grow much closer with that child inside you. Valdate and honor their words, and apply their suggestions and desires in your life where appropriate and necessary.
The child within you is brilliant, and they will guide your adult-self in becoming a fully integrated and matured version of themself. For that is what an adult is meant to be: A being created from the mutual exchange of knowledge from every version of the whole self. Teach that child your tools, knowledge, and your lifetime of experiences, and allow for that child to teach you the ways of spirt. Combine your gifts and wisdom to create the fullest expression of your being.
Embody your inner child proudly, honoring their voice as it synchronizes with yours.
With gratitude,
~Willow
